DANIEL GRIMWOOD- With a repertoire ranging from Elizabethan virginal music to works by living composers, Daniel Grimwood has enjoyed a solo and chamber music career that has taken him around the world and has performed in many of the world’s most prestigious concert halls. His musical interest began at the age of 3 when he was playing on a neighbor’s piano in Kent; he was already performing in front of an audience at the age of seven. He continued his education with Graham Fitch at the Purcell School, where he also studied violin, viola and composition, giving him a broad understanding of classical music, later with Vladimir Ovchinnikov and Peter Feuchtwanger. Daniel Grimwood has a passion for all keyboard instruments, old and newand has played Chopin’s Etudes on the composer’s Pleyel piano. His CDs of Liszt and Chopin, played on an 1851 Erard piano, received unanimous praise from the press; The Liszt album was CD of the week in the Daily Telegraph and Editor’s Peters Sound in Gramophone Magazine. He was first artist to record on the Edition Peters Sounds label, the complete album of Fauré-Nocturnes received excellent reviews in The Sunday Times, followed by a CD of solo piano works by Adolph Henselt, described as “a blizzard of stunning piano playing” in the Observer. His most recent release is a CD of works by Doreen Carwithen and William Alwyn, also on Edition Peters Sounds, and his recording of the complete Henselt etudes op.2 and op.5 has beeen released in 2022.
As editor and author, Grimwood is currently preparing editions by John Field and Adolph Henselt for Edition Peters. His book about the etudes by Adolph Henselt met with great enthusiasm. In addition to playing the piano, he is regularly on live broadcasts BBC Radio 3 and featured in the BBC Four TV documentary series Revolution and Romance. In addition to his work as a pianist, he is an enthusiastic long-distance runner and a member of the Paddock Wood Athletic Club.
